Cabin Use

Heat

There are two heaters located in the living room.

The large heater on the wall by the stairs is electric, and is controlled by the thermostat in the hallway.  DO NOT change the setting on the front panel of the electric heater as this may shut down the heater completely.

The smaller heater located on the north wall under the window is propane and is controlled by the panel on the heater itself.

Feel free to use either heater.

There are also baseboard electric heaters in the guest bedroom, the bathrooms and the laundry room.

Please turn off all baseboard heaters, set the propane temperature to LO, and the hallway thermostat to 60 when you check out.

Water

Our water is provided by community wells.  Occasionally the water pressure will be low due to the lag time on the pressure tanks.  We have no control over this, but it normally corrects itself.

The well water has been tested and meets all government requirements, but it is not chlorinated.  Feel free to use the provided bottled water for drinking and/or cooking.

 Hot water

The hot water heater is located in the downstairs bedroom closet.  We usually turn it off when no one is staying in the cabin.  The main switch is in the gray box mounted on the wall just above the water heater.  To turn it on, just move the switch  to the “ON” position.  Water should be hot within 30 minutes.

Please turn it off when you check out.

Fireplace

Feel free to use the fireplace whenever you like.  Firewood is stacked on the front deck and additional logs are in a pile on the south side of the cabin.  An axe is provided for splitting should you feel ambitious.

The fireplace damper is open if it’s pushed all the way to the right.  Please close the damper when you check out.

Septic System

The cabin uses a septic tank, so please refrain from putting things like tampons, dental floss and food in the drain.

Trash service

If you’re staying for less than a week, you can leave your trash in the garbage can in the laundry room.  Our cleaning service will then take care of it.

For longer stays you might want to make use of the Waste Management trash pick up service.  They will pick up trash that’s placed at the curb if it’s in their special BLUE BAGS.  They serve our neighborhood on Tuesday mornings, and if these blue bags are at the curb, they will stop and pick them up.  There should be a small supply of these bags in the cabin for your use.  Additional bags can be purchased at the South Fork visitor’s center for $3.00 each.

Be aware that trash attracts wildlife…bears, birds, bugs, coyotes, etc.  So try to put your trash out the morning of the pickup.

Recycling

If you care to, just place your recyclables in the small plastic trash can in the laundry room.  We will take care of getting it recycled.

Linens

There are additional linens in each of the bedroom dressers and bathroom cabinets.

Key management

Please call us for details regarding keys.

Snow

The driveway should be plowed for you.  We try but cannot always have the deck cleared of snow.  A snow shovel is available if you’re up to it.

Speed Limit

Several of our neighbors live in the Mill Creek subdivision year-round.  So please be considerate and drive slowly within the neighborhood.

Fire extinguisher

A fire extinguisher is located in the hallway closet.

Emergency contact

Should you need immediate attention for any problem at the cabin, please call us at 719 332-2324 or 719 684-5585.

We hope you enjoy your stay, and encourage questions, comments and entries in the guest book.
